SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE WEATHER EXPECTED NEXT WEEK


Current Watches, Warnings and Advisories for California Issued by the National Weather Service: A VERY STRONG JET STREAM COMING OFF THE ASIA CONTINENTWAS CUTTING ACROSS SOUTHERN JAPAN THIS MORNING. THIS JET STREAMWILL WORK ITS WAY ACROSS THE PACIFIC OCEAN THIS WEEK...AND ISEXPECTED TO SEND A SERIES OF STORMS INTO THE WEST COAST OF THEUNITED STATES BEGINNING ON MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY. PERIODS OF WETWEATHER CAN BE EXPECTED NEXT WEEK...WITH SIGNIFICANT RAIN AND HIGHELEVATION SNOW POSSIBLE. IT IS TOO EARLY TO PINPOINT EXACTLY WHEREAND WHEN THE MAIN IMPACTS WILL OCCUR...BUT THE OVERALL PATTERN ISSIMILAR TO THE ONE WHICH AFFECTED THE WEST COAST IN JANUARY OF1995...WHICH WAS ALSO AN EL NINO PERIOD. LAS VEGAS RECEIVED THREEINCHES OF RAIN...NEARLY THREE QUARTERS OF THE YEARLY AVERAGE...INJANUARY 1995.RESIDENTS OF THE MOJAVE DESERT AND SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN...AS WELLAS THOSE PLANNING TO TRAVEL IN THE REGION...SHOULD BE PREPARED FORTHE SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE WEATHER. KEEP ABREAST OF THE LATESTFORECASTS AND ANY WATCHES...ADVISORIES OR WARNINGS.
